The Flex Youth & Community Group is the only ethnically diverse Youth Organization of its kind in the Basildon area - inspiring youth to embrace their true identity while unleashing their inner potential. Our programmes help our youth shape their own values, while providing them with all the tools, resources and support they need in order to evolve into confident leaders both today and tomorrow. I love volunteering at flex, it has been a very indulging experience that has really enabled me to learn about my culture to the best of my ability, whilst meeting new people that share similar experiences with me. Overall, it has been such a fulfilling experience, my favourite part, is educating the younger children of our community and teaching them of our values!

identifying the need
Founded by Miriam Chalkley in 2022, The Flex Youth & Community Group was established to provide children from ethnically diverse and socially deprived backgrounds an environment in which they can reach their fullest potential. The need was evident from the start as there were not many young people from this demographic utilising services at the youth centres. What started off as a small weekly session has grown into an incredible community group that’s committed to empowering children of all backgrounds. Since opening its doors in March 2022, Flex has seen over 120 young people walk through its doors and register to youth programmes.
